Police will work to ensure peaceful polls: DMP Commissioner

Staff Reporter:

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman has said police will perform duties impartially in line with the election commission’s rules and regulations during the upcoming national elections to be held on January 7, 2024.

“We will work to ensure peaceful elections by maintaining neutrality,” he said while addressing a pitha festival held at Shaheed SI Shiru Mia Auditorium in Rajarbagh Police Lines on Thursday.

While addressing the festival initiated by himself to encourage police forces, the DMP commissioner said Pitha has a special place in Bangladeshi culture.

“At the end of Agrahayan, when winter comes, there is a custom of making pitha with newly-harvested rice in all areas of Bangladesh. Pitha festival is also organized in many areas. Those of us who work in the police do not have the opportunity to be involved in such types of festivals. All members of DMP are a family. So, pitha festival has been organized for the family,” he added.

DMP Additional Police Commissioners AKM Hafiz Akhter, Moha Ashrafuzzaman, Munibur Rahman, DB Chief Mohammad Harun or Rashid, Deputy Commissioners and policemen of various ranks were present.
