Arson attackers in train indentified, to be arrested soon: DB Chief

The chief of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Thursday said police will soon arrest the arson attackers of Mohanganj Express train as they have already identified them (attackers).

Additional Commissioner of the DMP and Chief of the DB Mohammad Harun or Rashid told the journalists at his office that the DB police got names of those who were involved in setting fire to an express train that killed four innocent people.

“Setting fire on a train was not a part of politics. It was a criminal act. Those who set fire to three coaches of a train will not be spared. DB along with other law enforcement agencies is working. We got many names and hope the criminals will be arrested soon,” he said adding the attackers might be hired or involved for money but they should be barred from such of the heinous acts.

“It was not at all a right to do this work following orders of an elder brother (senior leader).

The DB always investigates into the incident after taking place as shadow investigation. Four lives including a child were burnt alive due to vandalism and criminalization,” he added.

Harun said that those who have been doing it since 28th October to falsify the elections and create anarchy among the common people, adding, “They are setting fire on buses at sporadic places. We have arrested several people. Again they have started setting fire on the train.”

He requested the people to inform the police about the attackers so that police can bring then into book.

About the elections, Harun said the national elections will be held in a free and fair manner. The law enforcers are working for that purpose. “If anyone commits vandalism they will be brought to book.”
