Fire set on two buses in city during hartal

Staff Reporter:

Unidentified arsonists set fire to two buses in Dhaka’s Khilgaon and Gulistan areas yesterday morning and afternoon amid the countrywide hartal called by the BNP and like-minded opposition parties.
A bus of Rob Rob Paribahan was set on fire near Meradia Bazar of Khilgaon around 7 am, said Moshiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Rampura Police Station.
He said that two youths riding on a motorcycle set the bus on fire and fled.
On information, the fire service personnel rushed to the spot and extinguished the fire.
However, no one was injured in this incident, he added.
Around 1 pm, arsonists set fire to a bus of Malancha Paribahan in Dhaka’s Gulistan area.
Two fire engines from Siddique Bazar station doused the blaze around 1:15 pm, said Shahjahan Sikder, deputy assistant director of Fire Service and Civil Defence headquarters media cell.
No casualties were reported, he said.
BNP and like-minded opposition parties are enforcing a dawn to dusk hartal in protest of the announce-ment of the election schedule.
Just an hour before the hartal , four people, including a child, were killed as arsonists set fire to the Dhaka-bound Mohanganj Express train in the capital’s Tejgaon Railway station area.
