The High Court yesterday dismissed the writ filed against the candidature cancellation order of Election Commission (EC), given against Awami League nominee from Faridpur-3 constituency Shamim Haque, for having dual citizenship.
A High Court division bench comprising Justice M. Iqbal Kabir and Justice SM Moniruzzaman passed the order yesterday morning.
Earlier on December 15, the EC cancelled Haque’s candidacy on grounds of having dual citizenship after an application by Awami League’s independent candidate from the same constituency AK Azad.
It has been stated in the article 66 (2) (c) of the constitution of Bangladesh that- a person shall be dis-qualified for election if he acquires the citizenship of a foreign state.
