BNP brings out victory procession in Dhaka

Staff Reporter:

BNP, the main opposition political party in the country, brought out a colorful procession marking Victory Day in Dhaka on Saturday.

The procession began in front of the party’s Nayapaltan central office around 2:30 pm while leaders and activists of the party were chanting different slogans against the government, police, and ruling Awami League.

The BNP men, holding colorful placards, banners and posters, took part in the procession and paraded different roads including Kakrail, Shantinagar and Malibagh roads.

A brief rally was held prior to the procession with Nitai Roy Chowdhury, vice chairman of the party, in the chair. BNP Standing Committee Members Abdul Moeen Khan and Nazrul Islam Khan spoke at the rally.

In his short speech, Moeen Khan said the ruling Awami League government had ruined the spirit of the victory day and turned the day into a day of defeat for the government.

He accused the ruling quarter of embezzling money and urged pro-democratic people to take a fresh commitment to wage a vigorous movement for the removal of the government.

Taking part in the pre-procession rally, Nazrul Islam Khan, also a standing member of the party, said the government has imprisoned senior BNP leaders, including Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, to arrange a game on January 7 in the name of election
