Ferry services resume after 9 hours

Manikganj: Ferry services on Aricha-Kazirhat route resumed yesterday after more than nine hours of disruption due to dense fog, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) official sources said.
BIWTC Paturiaghat Deputy General Manager (DGM) Shah Mohammad Khaled Newaz told , the dense fog blanketed the river beds of the river Jamuna and the Padma after the 10.15 am and the movement of ferries in between Aricha and Kazirhat was suspended, adding that the ferry movement in between Patu-ria and Daulatdia was suspended from 12. 15 midnight.
Seven ferries Mauna, Shah Enayetpuri, Khan Jahan Ali, Keramat Ali, Madhobilota, Faridpur and Bir Shrestha Hamidur Rahman were in anchored at Paturiaghat loaded with vehicles and passengers, four ferries Shah Paran, Shaheed Borkat,Rojonigandha and Hasna Hena were at Daulatdiaghat and Bonolota was in the middle of the Padma.
The DGM said the ferry movement between Paturia and Daulatdia resumed after 6. 25 and Arich and Kazirhat resumed after 7.30 am when the fog disappeared.
