The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested six alleged active operatives of banned militant outfit ‘Ansar-Al-Islam’ during a secret operation from Narayanganj on Sunday night.
“Acting on intelligence information, an operational team of RAB-1 conducted a raid at Purbachal area under Rupganj Upazila and arrested them,” Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the Legal and Media Wing at RAB, told the reporters at its Karwan Bazar media centre here yesterday.
The arrestees are- Chief Coordinator of the militant group Abdur Razzak Ishak alias Saiba, 41, of Halu-aghat Thana of Mymensingh District, Shariful Islam alias Murad, 31, of Bhaluka Thana, Ashikur Rah-man Usaiman, 27, of Tarakanda Thana, Muhammad Zakaria Abrar, 24, of Muktagacha Thana of the same district, Al Amin Robin alias Samura, 24, of Tangail’s Dhanbari Thana and M. Abujar Maruf, 18, of Comilla district.
According to the RAB official, a large amount of Jihadi and extremist books were recovered from their possessions during the raid.
“During the primary interrogation, they revealed that after receiving training from Afghanistan, they were trying to increase their operational activities by recruiting new members. Their goal was to conduct militant attacks at a large scale,” he added.
Necessary legal action has been taken against the arrested militants, Commander Moin said.
