14-party to contest polls with ‘Boat’

Staff Reporter:

Awami League (AL) led 14-party alliance has decided to contest in the 12th parliamentary elections from the coalition with AL’s election symbol ‘Boat’.
The decision was taken at a 14-party alliance meeting held at its coordinator and spokesperson Amir Hossain Amu’s Eskaton residence in the city yesterday afternoon.
Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASOD) President Hasanul Haq Inu briefed journalists about the decision after attending the meeting.
He said, in the last parliament elections, there were 10 candidates from the alliance partners and hoped that the number of candidates from the alliance members would be two times in this parliamentary elec-tion.
“The candidates nominated by the 14-party alliance will contest in the polls with election symbol ‘Boat’. So, if AL leaders take part in elections independently against the alliance nominated candidates, it may create a problem,” Inu said and expressed hope that the ruling party will consider the issue.
At the alliance meeting with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, alliance leaders cleared the matter that they will contest in the polls from the alliance and “We will be able to resolve the matter of sharing seats among the alliance members”.
Inu, however, expect a dignified share of seats among the alliance members.
