None to be able to ruin polls: Shahriar

State Minister for foreign affairs Md Shahriar Alam yesterday said no one would be able to ruin the upcoming general election as the entire country get into election mood after the polls schedules were declared.
“We firmly believe nobody will be able to obstruct the polls,” he said while speaking as chief guest at a seminar titled “Election in South Asia and impact in the region: Democracy and continuity of constitution” organized by IDDB at Jatiya Press Club here.
Pointing to BNP, the state minister said those who will not take part in the upcoming general elec-tion not to be a part of the nation’s democratic journey.
He said there are some BNP supporters who are deeply frustrated and as they see no future under the party’s undemocratic approach.
Regarding the South Asia perspective, Alam said that cooperation and friendship should not be limited within the boundary.
He said there is many more to do under collective efforts for the greater betterment of the people in the region. “We are neighbors, we have issues and issues will remain,” he added.
He said enemies of democracy are still active and any domestic issue will have impact on the South Asia.
The state minister said tremendous achievements have been made in bilateral ties between Bangla-desh and India.
Moderated by Jatiya Press Club General Secretary and Daily Bhorer Kagoj Editor Shyamal Dutta, the seminar was also addressed by former Chittagong University vice chancellor Prof Abdul Man-nan, President, Press Club of India Gautam Lahiri, Editor-in-Chief of Ekattor TV Mozammel Huque Babu, among others.
