Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested five persons, including president of Barishal Mahanagar Chhatra Dal, over arson-terrorism in the country.
Barishal Mahanagar Chhatra Dal President Rezaul Karim and a worker of Chhatra Dal were arrested from Sadar thana area of Barishal in a raid last night, said RAB’s Legal and Media Wing Senior Assistant Director ASP ANM Imran Khan yesterday.
Rezaul was planning to set fire to a passenger launch on Barishal-Dhaka route after the announcement of the polls schedule of 12th parliamentary elections.
Besides, he is accused of ordering vandalism and violence at various places in the capital Dhaka and Ba-rishal on October 28 and after that.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mirpur division deputy commissioner Jasim Uddin Molla said that the police arrested three leaders of Swechasebak Dal in connection with setting fire to a BRTC bus in Mirpur-10 area of the capital on Tuesday night.
The arrested are: Hafizur Rahman, 35, Shahidul Islam, 20 and Shamim, 45.
The detailed information of the arrestees is yet to be known.
