BNP yesterday expelled its two national executive committee members Advocate Khandaker Ahsan Habib and Barrister AKM Fakrul Islam from the party’s all levels for their involvement in activities against party discipline.
They were expelled from all posts of the BNP, including primary membership, based on specific allega-tions of their involvement in activities that go against party discipline, said a party press release signed by its Assistant Office Secretary Taiful Islam Tipu.
Earlier in the day, the duo expressed their disagreement with BNP’s ongoing movement and called upon the party to participate in the upcoming election.
“There is no alternative to join the election,” Ahsan Habib said in a written statement at a press confer-ence at a city hotel.
He said it is necessary to overcome the crisis and avoid violence through talks.
Ahsan Habib claimed that there are 125 BNP leaders with them who will independently participate in the upcoming polls.
He said he would contest the polls from Tangail-5 seat while Barrister Fakhrul from Jhalakathi-2.
