The Election Commission (EC) has cancelled the results of one polling station in Lakshmipur-3 and two in Brahmanbaria-2 parliamentary by-elections due to irregularities.
But no fresh voting is required in the three polling stations as the number of voters under the polling stations is less than the margin between the top two candidates in both constituencies.
EC Secretary Jahangir Alam said this at a press briefing after a meeting of the commission at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city.
He said the EC also decided to lodge cases against two persons involved in election irregularities in Lak-shmipur and to take action against the polling officers of three polling stations in Lakshmipur-3 and Brahmanbaria-2 under the Election Officers Special Act, 1991.
The Election Commission took these decisions after finding the alleged irregularities true through inves-tigation, he added.
The three polling stations are Jatrapur Noorania Hafizia Madrasa and Sharifpur Government Primary School in Brahmanbaria-2, and Dakshin Gaguria Government Primary School in Lakshmipur-3.
In reply to a question over the schedule announcement for the upcoming general election, Jahangir asked to wait for two days, hinting it will be declared within the first half of this month.
“The EC earlier said that the schedule will be announced within the first half of November. So, there is still time. Wait for that,” he said.
