Two defense witnesses yesterday were testified in a case filed for allegedly amassing illegal wealth and concealing the information by BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas.
Supreme Court lawyer Adv AKM Shahjahan and chartered accountant Nurul Hossain Khan yesterday appeared as the defense witnesses and testified for the accused. They were later cross-examined by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) counsel Mahmud Hossain Jahangir.
Judge Manjurul Imam of Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 later adjourned the hearing of the case till No-vember 12.
The court on November 5 showed Abbas arrested in the case and allowed a defence plea for allowing producing defence witnesses afresh. Dhaka Special Judge Court-6 on October 31 cancelled Mirza Ab-bas’s bail in the case and issued arrest warrant against him.
The ACC on August 16, 2007, filed the case with Ramna Police Station for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 7.54 crore and concealing information about wealth of Taka 57.26 lakh. ACC assistant director Md Khairul Huda after probing the case, filed charge sheet on May 24, 2008, accusing Abbas for amassing illegal wealth of Taka 4.23 crore.
The court on June 16, 2008, framed charges against Mirza Abbas.
