Fall of those who do politics over arson inevitable: Quader

Staff Reporter:

Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader yesterday said the fall of those who do politics over terrorism and arson is inevitable.
“BNP wants to oust the government through a sneak attack in the name of blockade. AL leaders and workers should remain alert. The AL will hold its peace and development rallies until the next elections. The country’s people are eager to vote for Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
Quader made the remarks while speaking at the opening ceremony of Bhangapur Bridge construc-tion in Sylhet’s Balaganj virtually from the AL’s Dhaka district office in Tejgaon yesterday morn-ing.
He said BNP staged a drama of fraudulence in the name of movement on October 28 last, while they (BNP men) carried out violence, killed policeman, and attacked journalists, police hospital and the residence of the Chief Justice.
The people of Bangladesh are not safe under the BNP’s reign, he added.
Claiming that there is a lack of information in the statement of the European Union (EU) over the arrests of political leaders and activists, the AL general secretary said the EU is asking for the re-lease of 8,000 BNP leaders and activists.
“They (EU) are our friendly countries and that is why we cannot condemn their statement. How-ever, they have lack of information…we do not want to quarrel with them. We don’t want chaos in Bangladesh too,” he said.
Quader said AL President Sheikh Hasina will start official election campaign for the 12th national elections from Sylhet by joining a public rally there.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina acknowledged the contribution of Sylhet expatriates to the country’s economy, he said, adding that the AL government has extensively constructed roads, bridges and culverts for the development of Sylhet.
“People of Sylhet also love Sheikh Hasina,” the AL general secretary added.
Calling the AL leaders and workers to stay alert, Quader said, “We have nothing to lose. There is nothing to scare the BNP’s sneak attacks. Everyone should be careful”.
AL Organizing Secretaries Mirza Azam and Sujit Roy Nandi, Information and Research Secretary Dr Salim Mahmud, Office Secretary Biplab Barua, Central Committee Member Mohammad Ali Arafat and AL Dhaka District General Secretary Paniruzzaman Tarun, among others, were present.
