DB: Sensational info on bomb-making gleaned from 3 BNP arrestees

Staff Reporter:

Detective Branch (DB) of police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three BNP leaders including Al Masud, agriculture affairs secretary of central Jubo Dal, the party’s youth wing, on charges of sabotage.

Detectives arrested them from different parts of the capital on Friday with gunpowder, said the chief of the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Mohammad Harun-Or-Rashid while addressing reporters in the capital’s Mintoo Road.

The DB chief claimed the arrestees had given sensational information during primary interrogation.

Harun said they exploded bombs at different places on October 27. Besides, they threw bombs targeting police at different places on October 28.

The arrestees told DB that they used gunpowder to make the bombs, that they were planning to deploy on Sunday and Monday.

“They confessed to us that they have been making bombs since 1999. They bombed in 2013-14. One of their leaders died while making a bomb. In 2023, they again are trying to create anarchy by making and using bombs,” the DB chief was quoted.

Harun said DB is looking into whether they have distributed bombs to different people ahead of the blockade announced by the BNP on November 5-6.

Legal action will be taken if anyone is involved in any criminal activities, he added.
