Global power, fuel crisis affecting Bangladesh: PM

Staff Reporter:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday said the global power and fuel crisis is also affecting Bangladesh, while the government is working to address the situation.

He made the remarks at a cheque distribution ceremony for mosques and temples in Dhaka-17 constituency at the BNP chairman’s office in Gulshan.

The prime minister said the government is trying to explore 130 gas wells as part of efforts to address the energy crisis.

“Some unscrupulous people are engaging in illegal activities involving gas, as they do with oil and electricity,” he said.

Tarique stressed the need for collective efforts to take the country forward and urged people to resist those involved in illegal and wrongful activities.

“No one will be allowed to illegally take away state resources,” he said.

Referring to the misuse of state resources for personal interests in the past, he said the government was making every effort to prevent anyone from using public resources for personal gain.

A total of 28 mosques in Dhaka-17 received Tk2.47 lakh each, while 10 temples were given Tk3 lakh each on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja.
