PM goes without ‘His Excellency’, begins online attendance from own office

Staff Reporter:

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has begun removing the word “His Excellency” or any other honorary words while following online attendance from his own office.

The process to remove the word “His Excellency” from all files, documents and official correspondence began from the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday.

According to a circular issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday, the words “His Excellency”, “His Highness” or any other honorary words cannot be used during any kind of official correspondence and presenting any documents or summaries to the president, the prime minister and other government high-ups.

Following the directive, the prime minister has ordered his office to use only the word “Prime Minister” instead of “His Excellency the Prime Minister” in every file and other government documents.

Through this initiative, the prime minister is sending a message to bring forward his duties, public service, and commitment to the country and its people instead of focusing on his designation.

The PM is also trying to create an example regarding official discipline. Like other staff of his office, the PM is also following online attendance while entering and leaving his office, which is sending a message of following the rules to his staff.

The PM has already taken initiatives to reduce formalities associated with state events through not using his photo in government activities, reducing the number of vehicles in his protocol and not stopping traffic signals during his movement.

The PM is not even using flagged cars except state events both at home and abroad.
