PM Tarique not attending BRICS Summit in India: Humaiun Kobir

Staff Reporter:

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir has said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will not attend the BRICS Summit scheduled to be held in India next week.

Humaiun Kobir said Dhaka was not satisfied with the process through which Bangladesh was invited to participate in the summit.

However, the prime minister may undertake a bilateral visit to India, the state minister said.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after attending an international conference on Rohingyas at the Foreign Service Academy on Thursday.

The 18th BRICS Summit is scheduled to be held in New Delhi, the Indian capital, on 12 and 13 September. India is hosting the summit.

He said the government is working on arranging a bilateral visit to India when the timing is conducive.
