Sylhet: Police have arrested Abul Kashem Pallab, former chairman of Beanibazar Upazila Parishad and joint general secretary of the upazila Awami League, in connection with multiple cases.
He was arrested from the Vatara area of the capital around 11:30pm on Saturday, said Abu Zafar Md Mahfuzul Karim, officer-in-charge of Beanibazar Police Station.
He said Pallab faces at least 20 cases filed with different police stations on different charges, in-cluding murder and involvement in terrorist activities.
According to police and local sources, Pallab allegedly remained active in various Awami League programs in Beanibazar even after August 5, 2024.
He has also been accused of organizing public rallies and processions and continuing organization-al activities of the Awami League, which faces a ban on its activities, through secret meetings in defiance of court directives, the sources said.
