The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has said reports that an order was issued to seize the immovable assets and freeze the movable assets of former president Mohammed Sahabuddin are incorrect.
The commission said several media outlets mistakenly linked a court order concerning the assets of another person named Sahabuddin with the former president.
ACC Public Relations Officer Tanzir Ahmed confirmed the matter to Daily Sun on Thursday.
“Although the names are the same, it was not appropriate to publish the news without verifying whether they referred to the same person,” he said adding that their address and age are also different.
Earlier, the Senior Special Judge’s Court in Dhaka ordered the seizure of immovable assets and freezing of movable assets belonging to Md Sahabuddin, a resident of Siddiq Bazar in Dhaka, over allegations of acquiring assets beyond known sources of income.
His permanent address is Binodpur under Noakhali Sadar Police Station.
According to the ACC petition, the commission found information about approximately Tk1.87 crore in assets allegedly acquired beyond his known sources of income. The assets ordered to be seized reportedly include 18 plots in different locations, while two bank accounts were ordered to be frozen.
