Faridpur: A Faridpur tribunal on Tuesday sentenced three men to life imprisonment for the gang rape of a Class-IX schoolgirl in Boalmari upazila in 2020.
Faridpur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal Judge Abul Bashar Mia handed down the verdict.
The convicts are Nasir Molla, 26, of Babukhali village in Mohammadpur upazila of Magura, Saikat Chandra, 26, of Lankar Char area in Boalmari, and another Nasir Molla, 36, of the same area.
The court also fined each of them Tk 1 lakh, in default of which they will have to serve an additional year in jail.
According to the prosecution, the victim, then a Class-IX student, had become acquainted with Na-sir Molla, 26, through mobile phone.
Nasir called the girl to an orchard of Jibon Mondal near her house around 8:00pm on January 28, 2020. When she arrived there, the accused allegedly forcibly took her to a boat on the Madhumati River and then to a nearby sandbar.
The three men allegedly raped her there in turns after threatening her with dire consequences. They also allegedly recorded videos and took photographs of the incident.
When the girl fell seriously ill, the accused allegedly took her back by boat and left her near her home at around 11pm before fleeing.
The girl later told her parents and relatives about the incident. Her family filed a case with Boalma-ri Police Station on January 29, 2020.
