Staff Reporter:
The Dhaka University administration has identified 58 teachers for their alleged involvement in secret activities linked to the Awami League and formed a three-member investigation committee to probe the allegations and recommend necessary actions.
The university’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Abdus Salam heads the panel, which includes the dean of the Faculty of Science and the dean of the Faculty of Law as members.
The committee has already begun scrutinising overall information about the accused teachers to submit its recommendations to the university administration.
Public Relations Director Rafiqul Islam announced the development through an official press release issued on Thursday.
According to the press release, the university authorities set up the probe body after a report published across various media outlets recently came to their attention. The media report claimed that 404 teachers from 22 universities across the country were involved in covert activities to reactivate banned Awami League and facilitate the return of fugitive convict Sheikh Hasina.
The media report specifically listed 92 teachers from Dhaka University as participants in such operations. Following an initiative to verify and sort out the claims, university authorities have so far identified 58 teachers from that list.
The investigation committee will now examine detailed information regarding these identified faculty members, including the nature of allegations, their level of involvement, and the overall context of the matter.
Furthermore, officials confirmed that efforts to identify the remaining teachers among the 92 listed in the media report are currently underway.
“If the university identifies the names of any more teachers later, the same committee will investigate them and make necessary recommendations,” the press release said.
