Actor Don held, placed him in jail

Staff Reporter:

A Dhaka court on Sunday sent actor Ashraful Haque Don to jail hours after being arrested over the mur-der case of popular film actor Salman Shah.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order when Criminal Investigation Department (CID) inspector Arifur Rahman, also investigating officer of the case, sought an order to keep him in jail.
In his petition, the CID Inspector said Don is an accused named in the first information report (FIR) and according to the FIR he and other accused killed Salman Shah in a planned way.
Earlier, immigration police arrested Don at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 6am when he was preparing to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah.
The CID is investigating the Salman Shah murder case.
A murder case was filed with Ramna Police Station on October 21 last year, 29 years after Salman Shah’s death, following a court order.
Salman Shah’s maternal uncle Mohammad Alamgir filed the case naming 11 people as accused along with several unnamed individuals.
The accused named in the case are Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Lucy, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, actor Ashraful Haque Don, David, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, Abdus Sat-tar, Saju and Rizvi Ahmed Farhad.
Earlier, on October 20 last year, Dhaka’s Sixth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque directed the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to treat the case of Salman Shah’s “unnatural death” as a murder case and submit an investigation report.
Following the filing of the murder case with Ramna Police Station, a Dhaka court on October 27 last year imposed a travel ban on Salman Shah’s wife Samira Haque and actor Ashraful Haque alias Don.
