A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered to show former vice-chancellor of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah arrested in a case filed over the attempted murder of Mustain Billah Sabbir during the July Uprising.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Zakir Hossain passed the order, said State Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon.
Earlier on 28 July, Sub-Inspector Md Abu Sayeed, the investigating officer of the case and an officer of Uttara West Police Station, submitted the petition seeking his detention.
The fresh shown arrest plea was submitted just a day later when Kalimullah submitted a bail bond in a case over the alleged embezzlement of funds allocated for development projects at Begum Rokeya University.
On 7 August 2025, members of the Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Kalimullah from his residence in Mohammadpur. He has remained behind bars since then.
