Two people were killed and at least six others injured after a boundary wall of Mirpur University Col-lege collapsed yesterdayday while dozens of people were standing in a queue to collect Trading Corpora-tion of Bangladesh (TCB) essential commodities.
One of the deceased was identified as Nasima Begum.
Quoting Rubel, son-in-law of injured Razia Begum, Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), said many people were standing in a queue to collect TCB products.
Suddenly, the boundary wall at the back of the college collapsed around 1:00pm, leaving eight people injured.
Local people and relatives rescued them and took two of them to the emergency department of the DMCH around 2:45pm where the doctors declared one of them dead.
Razia Begum, wife of late Nuru Mia of South Kajirchar village under Muladi upazila in Barishal district, was undergoing treatment at the hospital. She has been living at a house in AC Transport Lane of Mirpur-10.
Meanwhile, Officer-in-Charge of Mirpur Police Station Hafizur Rahman said critically injured Nasima Begum died at the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation, popularly known as Pangu Hospital.
He also said the injured were undergoing treatment at different hospital, including the DMCH.
