Body to ensure expat-friendly services formed

The government has formed an inter-ministerial committee to ensure expatriate-friendly services through effective coordination among the relevant ministries, divisions, departments, agencies and authorities.
The committee will ensure effective coordination among the relevant ministries, divisions, departments, agencies and authorities to encourage prospective migrant workers to pursue legal migration, increase overseas employment, identify challenges in the migration process, protect the welfare and rights of mi-grant workers abroad, and ensure they receive hassle-free and dignified services, a gazette notification said.
It will take necessary initiatives to simplify, ensure and expand expatriate-friendly services and facilities at airports and other service points, as well as identify existing problems and limitations in the service delivery system and recommend appropriate solutions.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister will head the committee, while State Minister and Adviser on Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment will act its vice-presidents. Secretaries of Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Health Ser-vices Division, Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment and Ministry of Women and Children Affairs, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chair-man, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh Chairman, Director General of Bureau of Manpower Em-ployment and Training and Director General of Wage Earners’ Welfare Board will be its members, while Head of Administration and Finance Wing, Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment will act its member secretary.
