Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Thursday called upon students to remain dedicated to their education and grow into responsible citizens.
He made the call when a total of 127 students from classes VI to X and 43 teachers from 45 educational institutions in Lalmai upazila of Cumilla, who came to observe the parliamentary session, met him at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The prime minister also urged them to prepare themselves to become skilled, honest and capable leaders who would contribute to nation-building.
Despite a busy schedule of state affairs, successive official engagements, a parliamentary session and a lengthy cabinet meeting, Tarique Rahman appeared unfazed by fatigue as he took time to meet the students.
The students, many of whom had travelled from remote areas, were overjoyed to unexpectedly find themselves face-to-face with the prime minister.
They said that while watching a parliamentary session in person had long seemed beyond their reach, they had never imagined they would have the opportunity to meet the country’s prime minister. They described the experience as one of the most memorable and inspiring moments of their lives.
Addressing the teachers, Tarique called upon them to carry out their responsibilities with dedication in shaping the next generation into exemplary citizens.
As part of an initiative launched by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to help develop future leadership, teachers and students from educational institutions across the country are being given the opportunity to observe parliamentary proceedings firsthand.
The educational tour, organised by the Visitors’ Wing of the Parliament Secretariat, began with visits to the South Plaza and the LD Hall.
The participants later toured the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban designed by world-renowned architect Louis I Kahn, as well as the scenic Crescent Lake, the parliamentary chamber and the Parliament Library.
They also had the opportunity to watch the ongoing budget session live.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister attended a programme marking World Environment Day at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre.
He later joined a review meeting on the implementation of decisions taken at the first meeting on Waqf affairs at the Jatiya Sangsad, attended the parliamentary session, a meeting on the civil aviation and tourism sector, and a cabinet meeting.
Even after completing a day packed with official responsibilities, the prime minister made time for the country’s younger generation, underscoring that nurturing future leadership remains one of his key priorities alongside governing the nation.
