Fire breaks out at Chawkbazar’s Khaja Market

A fire broke out at Ashik Tower in Khaja Market in the capital’s Chawkbazar on Saturday afternoon, prompting the deployment of six firefighting units.

The fire erupted around 1:30pm, said Anwarul Islam, inspector of the Fire Service and Civil Defence media cell.

He said, “The blaze originated on the third floor of the five-storey building. Upon receiving the information, six units from Lalbagh and Siddique Bazar fire stations rushed to the scene and started efforts to bring the fire under control.”

The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage could not be determined immediately, the fire official added.
