The Purbachal New Town Project will ultimately come under the jurisdiction of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) as a separate division to ensure effective law enforcement in the fast-growing township, said Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md. Ali Hossain Fakir yesterday.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the Borkau Police Camp in Purbachal, the police chief said the government has already taken a policy decision to establish four police stations, six investigation centres and two police lines in the new township.
Besides, work is underway to set up three Deputy Commissioner (DC) offices, while the process of es-tablishing 41 police boxes across different sectors is also progressing.
“The inauguration of the Borkau Police Camp marks the formal beginning of police activities in Pur-bachal. This camp will play a significant role in developing the township as a planned, safe and modern city,” he said.
The IGP said the Ministry of Home Affairs had approved the establishment of police stations and inves-tigation centers in view of the importance of maintaining security in the residential project.
Subsequently, he said, the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkha allocated 29.21 acres of land for Bangladesh Police, of which registration of 18.63 acres has already been completed, while the remaining land is un-der process.
The IGP said the government plans to create a separate DMP division for Purbachal under the supervi-sion of an Additional Police Commissioner.
A proposal to create around 6,524 police personnel for the area is also under consideration.
Highlighting the government’s long-term vision, the IGP said the establishment of police infrastructure would strengthen public confidence, enhance security and support the planned expansion of Dhaka, con-tributing to sustainable urbanization and economic growth.
He also announced that two police camps will initially be established in Purbachal.
When the Borkau Police Camp was inaugurated yesterday, construction of the proposed Poshi Police Camp is in progress and is expected to be completed within the next two months.
The remaining police stations and investigation centers will be established in phases, he added.
DMP Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presided over the inaugural program.
