Barishal people demand Bhanga-Kuakata six-lane highway

Leaders and members of several organizations on Saturday formed a human chain demonstration rally in front of the National Press Club, demanding the construction of a six-lane highway from Bhanga to Kuakata along with several other development projects for the Barishal region.
The hour-long program, organized by the Barishal Zilla Samity, was held from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
The participants also demanded construction of a railway line from Dhaka to Kuakata, upgrading Sher-e-Bangla Medical College in Barishal into a university, construction of the Barishal-Bhola Bridge, protec-tion of Barishal from river erosion, supply of gas from the Bhola gas fields to Barishal, and establish-ment of an Export Processing Zone (EPZ) in the district.
Representatives from Dhaka Barishal Divisional Association, Barishal Divisional Journalists’ Association, Barishal Divisional Tax Lawyers’ Association, Patuakhali Zilla Samity, South Bengal Forum, and several upazila- and district-based organizations joined the program.
President of the Barishal Zila Samity Dr Enayet Karim coordinated the human chain.
