The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) yesterday gave in-principle approval to seven work packages under the “Canal Restoration, Renovation and Aesthetic Environment Creation (1st Re-vised)” project being implemented by the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).
The approvals came from the 19th meeting of the CCEA this year, held at the Bangladesh Secretariat with Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, officials said the committee approved seven packages under the re-vised project.
According to the approved procurement strategy, the works will be implemented through the Direct Pro-curement Method (DPM).
The execution of the seven packages has been entrusted to Dockyard and Engineering Works Limited, an organization operated by the Bangladesh Navy.
Officials said the involvement of the specialized naval organization would help ensure the required tech-nical standards, durability and quality of construction in the restoration and aesthetic development of the city’s canal network.
The Local Government Division placed the proposal before the committee.
The approvals mark a significant step forward in DSCC’s efforts to restore urban waterways, improve drainage infrastructure and enhance the environmental and aesthetic condition of the capital’s southern areas.
Through the implementation of the project, the government expects to accelerate canal rehabilitation works, improve water flow and contribute to creating a cleaner and more livable urban environment for city residents.
