Liberation War Affairs Minister Ahmed Azam Khan on Thursday said that only 6,787 people who had been martyred during the 1971 Liberation War were officially included in the gazette.
He shared the information during a parliamentary session in response to question placed by Pirojpur-3 lawmaker Md Ruhul Amin Dulal.
Md Ruhul Amin Dulal asked whether the current government has plans to publish an accurate number of martyrs and a definitive list of genocide victims.
In a written reply, Ahmed Azam Khan confirmed that the names of 6,787 individuals who took part in the 1971 war and achieved martyrdom have been successfully incorporated into the Bangladesh Gazette so far.
Addressing the issue of a wider list for the genocide, the minister said that the government maintains a highly constructive approach.
“The government holds a positive stance regarding the formulation of a comprehensive list of the genocide victims during the Liberation War, and necessary measures will be taken in a phased manner,” the statement concluded.
