Intensive care unit (ICU) services are set to be officially launched at 10 district-level hospitals across the country under the Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness (ERPP) project.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain is expected to inaugurate the ICU facilities on Sunday.
The hospitals where the new ICUs will be set up are – Munshiganj 250-bed District Hospital, Tangail 250-bed District Hospital, Sunamganj 250-bed District Sadar Hospital, Gopalganj 250-bed General Hospital, Chuadanga District Hospital, Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital, Jashore 250-bed General Hospital, Sherpur 250-bed District Sadar Hospital, Madaripur District Hospital, and Bagerhat District Hospital.
According to health ministry sources, all the ICUs have already been equipped with necessary paediatric ventilators and oxygen concentrators, and required manpower has also been recruited to operate the facilities.
The initiative is expected to ensure improved emergency and critical care services for both children and adult patients at the district level.
The main inauguration ceremony will be held at Narayanganj General (Victoria) Hospital at 10am on Sunday, while the remaining nine hospitals will join the event virtually.
Once these ICU units become fully operational, critical patients at the district level will no longer need to rush to the capital or major cities for advanced treatment.
