CID to investigate attempted rape case of JU student

The investigation of a case filed over the alleged attempts to rape and murder a Jahangirnagar University female student has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for further probe.

According to a letter issued by the Police Headquarters on Thursday, the investigation of Ashulia Police Station Case No 80, dated 13 May 2026, registered under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, 2000, along with sections 323 and 307 of the Penal Code, has been officially handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Bangladesh Police.

The decision was made in response to the letters from the deputy inspector general (DIG) of Dhaka Range and the superintendent of police (SP), Dhaka district.

The superintendent of police of Dhaka district has been instructed to hand over all case documents to the CID for further investigation.

On 12 May, a female student of the university was allegedly subjected to an attempted rape and murder attempt by an outsider near the abandoned Fazilatunnesa Hall on the campus.

Since then, students from different groups, including JUCSU, have been demanding the arrest of the accused and exemplary punishment.
