Cabinet approves FDI Incentive Scheme Policy, draft of BMU (Amendment) Act

The cabinet on Thursday approved the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Incentive Scheme Policy, 2026, and the draft of the Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) (Amendment) Act, 2026.

The cabinet gave the approval at its ninth meeting at the Public Administration Meeting Room of the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman chaired the meeting.

According to the policy summary, the FDI Incentive Scheme Policy, initiated by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), has been formulated to encourage expatriate Bangladeshis and other Bangladeshi citizens to contribute to attracting foreign direct investment through incentive support.

Besides, the cabinet also approved the draft of the Bangladesh Medical University (Amendment) Act, 2026, proposed by the Medical Education and Family Welfare Division.

The summary of the draft stated that in order to expand the scope of medical services, medical education and research of Bangladesh Medical University, it is necessary to amend the Bangladesh Medical University Act, 1998, to include provisions for the formation of for-profit or not-for-profit companies or organisations by the university and the acquisition of shares and types of companies or organisations.

The cabinet also congratulated Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on his election as president of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
