Two killed as motorcycle plunges into ditch in Netrokona

Two young men were killed and another injured in a motorcycle accident in Kalmakanda upazila of Netrokona on Saturday night.

The deceased were identified as Nirab, 24, son of Nayan Mia of the Purba Bazar area under Kalmakanda Sadar Union, and Sohan, 20, son of Sajib Mia of the Ghoshpara area of the same union. The injured, Billal, 18, is the son of Nizam Uddin of Ghoshpara village.

According to local sources, a group of youths travelled from Kalmakanda to Rahimpur Bazar on two motorcycles on Saturday night. After having tea there, they started their journey home. Upon reaching the Chanduail area, some of the youths noticed that the riders of one motorcycle were missing and began searching for them.

Later, they found the motorcycle and its three riders lying in a roadside ditch near the Gajarmari Bridge on the Kalmakanda–Durgapur road.

With the help of local residents, the victims were rescued and taken to Kalmakanda Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty physician declared Nirab and Sohan dead.

Billal received primary treatment before being referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced care.

Officer-in-Charge of Kalmakanda Police Station, Md. Abul Hashem, said the bodies were handed over to their families without autopsies following legal procedures and requests from relatives.
