Speaker Hafiz hopes democracy gets permanent shape, none faces persecution

Staff Reporter:

Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, Bir Bikram, has expressed his optimism that democracy will get permanent shape and none will face persecution for their political belief under the tenure of the current BNP-led government.

“Citizens are enjoying freedom of speech and there is no fear among them since the current government assumed office. This is the benefit of democracy,” he said.

The speaker said this while exchanging Eid greetings with administrative officials, political leaders, activists and the devotees after Eid-ul-Azha prayers at the central Eidgah ground in Lalmohan upazila today.

Hafiz urged the affluent people to share joy of Eid-ul-Azha with underprivileged people.

“I firmly believe that in the coming days, a democratic government will be able to reflect the hopes and aspirations of the people. Under the leadership of current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government will dedicate itself to the welfare of ordinary citizens,” he said.

He said dreams of Liberation War have still not been fully realized. After many struggles and sacrifices, democracy has returned to the country, he said.

Referring to the contemporary global situation, the speaker said countries in the Muslim world are currently suffering due to oppression by global superpowers. He also alleged that an international conspiracy is being carried out against Muslims.

Local administrative officers and political leaders were present on the occasion.
