Shama receives body of migrant killed in Iraq missile strike

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam on Friday received the body of a Bangladeshi migrant worker killed in a missile attack in Iraq and handed over financial assistance to the bereaved family.

The body of Mohammad Shrabon, a Bangladeshi expatriate worker was killed in a missile strike in Baghdad recently.

Under the supervision of the Bangladesh Embassy in Baghdad, a Turkish Airlines flight carrying the body landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:45am.

Shama Obaed Islam received the body on behalf of the government with profound sorrow and respect and expressed deep condolence to the bereaved family, said a foreign ministry’s press release said.

Shrabon, son of Mohammad Noli Mia of Bakultala village under Munshiganj Sadar Upazila, had been living and working in Baghdad for the past 10 years.

The body was transported from Baghdad International Airport on 27 May aboard Turkish Airlines Flight TK0843 and reached Dhaka after a transit in Türkiye.

Following completion of airport formalities, the body was handed over to the deceased’s father, wife and daughter.

On the occasion, the state minister provided Taka 35,000 for transportation and funeral expenses, a special grant of Taka 50,000 and other financial assistance on behalf of the government.

Senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Wage Earners’ Welfare Board were present at the airport.
