30-km congestion on Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge Highway

Staff Reporter:

Vehicle movement has slowed significantly across nearly 30 kilometers of the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge Highway due to excessive traffic pressure, adverse weather conditions, accidents, and multiple vehicle breakdowns on the Jamuna Bridge and its connecting roads overnight.

Since late Tuesday night (26 May), intermittent traffic congestion has been reported from the Jamuna Bridge toll plaza to Pakulla in Sadar Upazila, causing severe suffering for passengers. Women, children, and elderly travelers are reportedly facing the greatest difficulties.

Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge site office, Syed Riaz Uddin, said that rainfall and excessive traffic pressure during the night contributed to the congestion. However, he expressed hope that the situation would gradually return to normal as the day progresses.

Meanwhile, Tangail Superintendent of Police Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar said the Tangail section of the Dhaka–Tangail–Jamuna Bridge Highway is experiencing unusually heavy traffic. Due to rainfall, vehicles are moving slowly, though authorities expect conditions to normalize soon.
