HC rejects writ challenging interim government’s legality

Staff Reporter:

The High Court on Thursday summarily rejected a writ petition challenging the legality of activities during the interim government led by former Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.

The HC bench of Justice Ahmed Sohel and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order after hearing arguments on the petition.

Senior Advocate of the Bangladesh Supreme Court MK Rahman appeared for the writ petitioner, while Additional Attorney General Aneek R Haque represented the state and opposed the petition.

Advocate Mohammad Mohsen Rashid filed the writ petition on 4 May, seeking a directive for the government to form a commission to investigate whether any allegations of corruption exist against Dr Yunus. He will move an appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order, he added.

The petition also questioned the legality of various decisions, including laws enacted, reform commissions formed, and domestic and international agreements signed during the tenure of the current government.

Earlier, the same lawyer had filed another writ petition challenging the legality of the oath-taking and formation process of the current government.
