Health sector reform commission meets Health minister

Staff Reporter:

Members of the Health Sector Reform Commission, led by its chief Professor Dr AK Azad Khan on Thursday met Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain.

The meeting was held at the conference room of the Health Ministry and focused on the implementation of the commission’s recommendations aimed at improving the country’s healthcare system.

During the discussion, commission members said they were ready to continue providing full cooperation in the future to ensure improved healthcare services, enhanced accountability, patient safety, and a more people-oriented health system.

They also called for an increased allocation in the health sector budget to strengthen primary healthcare services and ensure effective implementation at the grassroots level.

The commission noted that a robust primary healthcare system would help reduce patient pressure on tertiary hospitals, lower treatment costs, and ease the overall burden on specialised facilities.

Key issues including digital health services, institutional accountability, doctors’ security, and improvement of service quality were also discussed.

The health minister assured the delegation that the government would gradually take steps to implement the recommendations of the commission.

Commission member and Chairman of the Clinical Oncology Department at Bangladesh Medical University Prof Syed Akram Hossain, Dr Mohammad Zakir Hossain, Prof Dr Liaqat Ali, MM Reza, and Dr Azharul Islam were present at the meeting.
