Locals demand handover of rapist following violation of 3-year-old girl in Ctg

Staff Reporter:

Amid nationwide protests over the brutal killing of child Ramisa after rape in the capital, a three-year-old child was reportedly violated in the city’s Bakolia area on Tuesday.

Sources said the incident took place at Bismillah Mansion in the Chaimanghata area under Bakolia Police Station in the afternoon.

On information, police rushed to the spot and detained the accused from the building.

However, enraged locals kept the residence cordoned since then, demanding handover of the accused to them.

At one stage, a large crowd gathered at the scene, preventing cops from taking the accused away.

Around 8:00pm, police charged batons, and fired rubber bullets and teargas canisters to disperse the angry people, said the sources.

Officer in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Solaiman of Bakolia Police Station said the child was sent to One-Stop Crisis Centre of Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for treatment.

Police were trying to bring the situation under control, he added.

A tense situation was prevailing in the area as protesters continued demonstrations burning woods till filing the report at 8:30pm.
