IGP asks police to serve as per people’s expectations

Staff Reporter:

DHAKA – Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun Thursday asked field-level police officers to perform their duties with transparency and accountability, in line with the expectations of the countrymen.

“Many challenges related to law and order may arise in the future. We have to be ready to face those challenges,” he said while addressing the closing session of the two-day Police Headquarters Quarterly Conference at Bangladesh Police Auditorium at Rajarbagh Police Lines.

The IGP said any conspiracy to destabilize the country must be stopped, adding, “During the election, police will perform their duties under the Election Commission. Police will do whatever is necessary to control the law and order situation.”
He said the police forces are ready to foil any plot regarding the law and order situation.

Manun said measures should be taken so that none can deteriorate the law and order situation in the country by spreading rumours.

“Welfare of the force should be ensured. Discipline cannot be compromised while ensuring the welfare of the force. Bangladesh Police will not bear responsibility for the deviant behaviour of any police officer,” he said.

The IGP said, “Our position is ‘zero tolerance’ against corruption, involvement with drugs and moral lapse of any police officers.”

The conference was attended by Additional IGP Md Kamrul Ahsan, DMP Commissioner Khandaker Golam Faruq, RAB Director General M Khurshid Hossain, Additional IGP and Chief of Special Branch Md Monirul Islam, heads of various units of Police, all Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range DIGs and District Superintendents.
