Staff Reporter:
The verdict in the crimes against humanity case filed against Hasanul Haq Inu, former minister and president of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD), is expected any day.
The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has completed hearing closing arguments in the case over the killing of seven people in Kushtia during the 2024 mass uprising.
The three-member ICT-2 bench, headed by its chairman Justice Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, placed the case on the list for judgment after both the prosecution and defence concluded their arguments on Thursday.
During the hearing, the defence counsel argued that Inu had no involvement in the alleged Kushtia killings.
Inu’s lawyer, Sifat Mahmud Shuvo, said the prosecution failed to substantiate the charges, adding that his client held no constitutional or administrative position during the uprising.
ICT Chief Prosecutor Md Aminul Islam told the media that the prosecution had been able to present sufficient evidence.
He said the prosecution has sought the death penalty, citing Inu’s alleged superior command responsibility and involvement in a criminal conspiracy.
