Staff Reporter:
The government has issued fresh directives aimed at making land development tax collection faster and more effective.
In a recent letter sent to all assistant commissioners (land) across the country, the Ministry of Land set out several key instructions to speed up service delivery.
Under the new directives, applications for opening holdings for the payment of land development tax must be disposed of within a maximum of 48 hours after verification.
If an application is found ineligible for approval, it must be rejected with proper reasons clearly stated so that the applicant is informed of the grounds for the decision.
The ministry also directed that objections relating to the amount of land development tax, arrear years or land-use classification must be settled within seven days.
According to the ministry, the measures have been introduced to make citizen services easier and more transparent and to accelerate the collection of land development tax.
