A Dhaka court on Thursday placed dismissed Major and former Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI) official Manzil Haidar Chowdhury on a fresh three-day remand in a case filed over a murder linked to the July uprising.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order after the case investigation officer, DB Police Inspector Md Amjad Hossain Talukder, produced the accused before the court and sought a fresh seven-day remand.
Earlier, he was arrested on 9 April from Mohakhali DOHS area. Since then, he has been placed on remand in several phases in different cases.
According to the case statement, during the July movement on 5 August 2024, Rubel, along with several hundred students and civilians, brought out a protest procession in the Adabor Police Station area.
At that time, police and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated bodies allegedly opened fire, during which Rubel was shot and later died on 7 August while undergoing treatment. In connection with the incident, Rubel’s father, Rafiqul Islam, filed the case with Adabor Police Station on 22 August.
