12 killed in lightning strikes in six districts

At least 12 people were killed and 16 others injured in separate incidents of lightning strikes in six districts of the country on Saturday.
In Sunamganj, five people were killed and five others injured in four upazilas.
The deceased are Abul Kalam alias Kala Mia, 28, a resident of Tahirpur upazila, Nur Jamal, 30, of Jamalganj upazila, Md Habibur Rahman, 22, and Rahmat Ullah, both residents of Dharmapasha upazila, and Liton Mia, 38, of Derai upazila.
Jamal, Habibur, and Liton died while harvesting paddy in different haor areas.
The injured were sent to hospitals.
A health and family planning official in Tahirpur, along with the officers-in-charge of Jamalganj, Dharmapasha, and Derai police stations, confirmed the casualty figures.
In Rangpur, two people were killed and 11 others, including three children, were injured at Shakhipur village in Mithapukur upazila this morning.
The deceased are Milon Mia, 35, a fisherman, and Taleb Uddin, 45, a farmer, both residents of Shakhipur.
Confirming the number of casualties, Mithapukur police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nuruzzaman said the injured were admitted to Mithapukur Upazila Health Complex and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
In Habiganj, a farmer was killed while harvesting paddy in Momina haor under Nabiganj upazila.
The deceased is Sunam Uddin, 60, a resident of Rampur village in the upazila.
Nabiganj police station OC Md Monayem Mia confirmed the news of the death.
In Mymensingh, two people were killed in separate incidents of lightning strikes in Gouripur and Gafargaon upazilas.
The deceased are Rahmat Ali Ujjal, 30, of Konapara village in Gouripur, and Mamtaz Ali Khan, 58, of Dhairgaon village in Gafargaon.
Officers-in-charge of Gouripur and Gafargaon police stations confirmed the news.
In Netrakona, a farmer was killed by lightning while cutting grass in a haor for cattle in Atpara upazila.
The incident took place around 1pm. The victim is Altu Mia, 65, of Hatiya village in the upazila.
Atpara police station OC Md Jubaidul Alam confirmed the news of the death.
In Kishoreganj, a farmer was killed while harvesting paddy in a haor in Karimganj upazila, confirmed Upazila Nirbahi Officer Umme Muslima The deceased is Holud Mia, 37, a resident of Kalabagh village in the upazila.
