More diesel to be imported from India in April

Staff Reporter<:/strong>
The government is set to import more 17,000 tonnes of refined diesel from India this month through the Friendship Pipeline to strengthen the country’s energy security.
5,000 tonnes is scheduled to be pumped today and is expected to arrive within 4-5 days, while the remaining 12,000 tonnes will reach before the end of this month, Manager of Meghna Petroleum Limited Kazi Md Rabiul Alam said yesterday.
The remaining supply will come in two subsequent phases of 7,000 and 5,000 tonnes respectively, he added.
Earlier, the government imported 8,000 metric tonnes of diesel, which arrived at the Parbatipur depot in Dinajpur last Friday.
The fuel is being imported from Numaligarh Refinery in Assam, India, directly to Padma Oil PLC’s Parbatipur depot via the cross-border Friendship Pipeline.
Officials said the pipeline-based import significantly reduces transportation costs and ensures a stable fuel supply for the northern districts.
“We are maintaining sufficient stock and the supply chain is normal. There is no concern of a crisis,” Rabiul Alam assured.
In March, the government imported 17,000 metric tonnes of diesel from India through the same pipeline route.
