At least 3 heat waves, one potential cyclone expected in April

Staff Reporter:

Multiple heat waves are expected to sweep the country in April, and at least one of these could reach temperature of 40-degree Celsius, said the Met office in a long-term forecast.

There could be two-four mild to moderate heatwaves and one-two extreme heatwaves, said the weather update released by Md Mominul Islam, director at the Meteorological Department.

One or two low pressures could also form in the Bay of Bengal, and one of these could turn into a deep depression or cyclone.

Kalbahishakhi, a regional nor’wester, is also expected to hit the country this month. Five to seven days of mild or moderate rains accompanied by hailstorms, or one to three days of heavy storms are expected in the month.

At present, a mild to moderate heatwave is sweeping through 22 districts of the country, the Met office said, adding the situation would continue for a couple of days.

Over the past two days, maximum temperature crossed the 38-degree Celsius mark in the southwestern district of Chuadanga.

Around 3pm on Friday, temperature in the district reached 39.7-degree Celsius, the highest temperature recorded across the country so far this year.
