AG backs free flow of information

Staff Reporter:
Attorney General (AG) Barrister Md Ruhul Quddus Kazal yesterday said he believes in the free flow of information but stressed the need for vigilance to prevent people from being misled by mis-information or AI-generated contents.
He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists at his office here.
The Attorney General said journalists, alongside lawyers, have a significant role in making the At-torney General’s Office meaningful and effective. “I was once involved in journalism, so I under-stand how challenging it is to carry out a journalist’s professional responsibilities,” he said.
The attorney general noted that readers and viewers in Bangladesh show strong interest in court proceedings, making court-related reporting an important area of public attention.
Referring to media access at the Supreme Court, he said journalists previously enjoyed broader ac-cess to courtrooms for news coverage, which has recently been somewhat restricted.
He assured reporters that he would raise their concerns regarding courtroom access with the Chief Justice.
“I believe the Chief Justice will consider the matter reasonably and extend necessary cooperation to facilitate journalists in performing their professional duties,” he added.
